What I stand for

I’m a community independent. That means I’m here to represent you, not a political party, not big corporate donors, not lobby groups. If you make your own mind up about each issue as it arises, then you are an independent too. If you think the good of the community comes before the good of the politician, then you are an independent too.

As we move through the campaign and hear from more of you,  I am developing positions on a range of issues. If elected, I plan to create local advisory groups and consult experts on the important issues, and will set up a program to bring volunteers to Canberra, so our community can be involved right where decisions are made.

The policies and positions I will advocate for in parliament will be informed by you — the people I hope to represent.

Here are some of the issues that have been raised with me so far. If you have questions, thoughts or other ideas, I would love to hear from you. Please drop me a line here.

KEY ISSUES:

As a former small business owner, I’ve spent years helping local families cut their power bills by pioneering solar energy on the Coast. I know firsthand the pressures households are under—and I know what works. I’ll bring that same practical approach to making life more affordable for Coast families.

We need to fix the broken energy system with stronger rules and better oversight to stop unfair price hikes, while giving households and businesses more control over their energy use and costs.

The rising cost of groceries is another major strain. I will implementing the recommendations from the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct Review to make compliance mandatory to ensure fairer prices for farmers and consumers while increasing competition in the supermarket sector. Because families shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table and paying their bills.

Politics should be about people, not parties. Too often, politicians put their party’s interests—or big corporate donors—ahead of the community. That’s exactly why I’m running as an Independent: to listen, to act, and to put Fisher first.

I’m committed to restoring trust in politics by supporting stronger anti-corruption laws, whistleblower protection, political donation reform and ensuring government decisions work for people—not just banks, supermarkets, and fossil fuel companies. Fisher deserves an MP who will be transparent, accountable, and always answerable to you.

Young families, key workers, and retirees are being priced out of our region. We need more affordable and social housing options, but we also need to protect what makes our communities special.

This crisis has been decades in the making, and while there’s no quick fix, we can’t afford to wait any longer. I’ll push for coordinated action between government, industry, finance, and community groups to find smart, practical solutions that make home ownership and secure rentals a reality—not just a dream.

Sunshine Coasters love their beautiful environment. Indeed, it is what drew so many of us here. I will make it a high priority to advocate for biodiversity and waterway protections are in line with the recommendations of science, to protect what makes our place so special.

We need strong, practical action on climate change—not just for the environment, but for our economy and cost of living. Investing in renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet; it lowers power bills, creates local jobs, and strengthens our energy security during natural disasters.

I’ll push to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies and instead invest in renewables, community solar, and battery storage. Australia has the chance to be a world leader in clean energy, giving us credibility on the global stage while making life better here at home.

The Sunshine Coast is growing fast, and without smart planning, we risk losing what makes it so special. We need transport and infrastructure solutions that connect our communities while protecting our beaches, green spaces, and biodiversity.

Public transport, in particular, is lagging behind. The Direct Rail to Caloundra and duplication of the line to Nambour are a start, but we need urgent investment in reliable, clean, and frequent public transport to ease congestion and make our region more liveable.

Having supported family members through mental health challenges, I know how hard it can be to get the right care when you need it. Despite healthcare plans, many people can’t afford private psychology appointments, and wait times for affordable care are unacceptable.

Our hospitals are under pressure, a lack of bulk-billing GPs and affordable primary health care as well as a shortage of aged care places play into the problem of hospital pressure and ambulance ramping that we hear so much about.  This isn’t just a hospital issue—it’s a system issue. I’ll fight for better-funded, more accessible mental health services, stronger investment in primary healthcare, and more aged care places so that our loved ones can get the care they need, when they need it.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community—I know this because I’ve lived it. My parents and grandparents ran small businesses, and my husband and I built and grew our own right here in Fisher for 26 years. It’s in my DNA.

I’ll work to create an environment where businesses can thrive, with policies that support innovation and entrepreneurship. And we need tax reform that ensures workers and small businesses aren’t carrying an unfair burden while big corporations exploit loopholes. Economists have called for serious tax reform for years—it's time we had the courage to act.

We need urgent action on the crisis of violence against women. I fully support the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children and will push for national standards in domestic violence services, crisis accommodation, and prevention programs.

Pay equity is also long overdue. I’ll advocate for transparency in pay reporting and policies that promote more women into leadership roles. And we need universal, affordable childcare so parents—especially women—aren’t forced to choose between work and family.

Many of the issues we face—housing, climate, the economy—disproportionately impact younger generations. We need long-term solutions, not just quick political wins. I’ll make sure that every decision I advocate for keeps intergenerational fairness front and centre.

Together, we can build a stronger, fairer Fisher. Let’s get to work.
